The Stanfield Chronicles

The Stanfield Chronicles

David Tory is the award-winning author of the Stanfield Chronicles

The Mayflower left Plymouth England in 1620 bound for the Hudson River. It didn’t get there. Was it bad weather or something clandestine?

The Stanfield Chronicles is Isaac Stanfield’s story. He escapes from a disastrous fire to become an eager, adventurous young sailor. By happenstance he is recruited as an agent for Sir Ferdinando Gorges and faces torture, humiliation and death in Sir Ferdinando’s efforts to establish settlements in New England.

Isaac’s adventures and misadventures take him to New England, Holland, France, Spain and Bermuda. He becomes a successful merchant, ship owner and farmer, only to face the prospect of ruin.

His story is also the story of his love for two women.

Exploration

Exploration, the first novel of the Stanfield Chronicles Historical trilogy, begins in 1613, in the town of Dorchester, England.

To escape possible prosecution, a young lad, Isaac Stanfield, is taken on board a merchantman sailing for France.  Isaac quickly wins the crew’s respect by his courage, quick-wittedness and modesty. So begins a life of action and jeopardy, challenges met, and friendships gained.

He faces down villainy, mortal threats and piracy as he becomes the confidant of the key players in the intrigue and conflict that leads to departure of the Mayflower for the New World.

It is also a love story of passion, misunderstandings, fulfillment and heartbreak.

Isaac’s life consists of blue water sailing adventures, kidnapping, smuggling, pirates, torture and romance, on two continents, from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea. A life lived on the edge while he attempts to protect those he loves.

Retribution

Retribution, the second novel of the Stanfield Chronicles Historical trilogy, starts with the departure of the Mayflower from Plymouth in 1620.

A confused and heartbroken Isaac is sent by Sir Ferdinando Gorges on an exploratory voyage to New England. He abandons his son and seeks resolution on his journey. Supported by devoted friends, he attempts to put his life back together.

The next assignment to New England ends disastrously and nearly costs Isaac his life.

At sea, piracy is a constant and deadly threat as Isaac builds his trading business with France and Spain.

A love lost, another gained. His son restored, then kidnapped. Isaac faces the most frightening challenge of his life.

Redemption

Redemption is the third novel of the Stanfield Chronicles Historical trilogy. It’s 1628. The early stages of the Great Migration to New England have begun. The first boatloads of what will become a flood of settlers arrive, under-equipped and ill-prepared.

Isaac and his family, driven by personal loss, political and religious conflict, migrate to New England on a nightmare voyage. Surviving the journey, they face mortal danger from unseen foes and fight to survive when half their fellow settlers die from sickness, cold and malnutrition.

Amidst the horrors, Isaac seeks to protect his family and rebuild his fortunes only to find the past returns to haunt him.
